HBF Response - Renewable Heat Incentive - RHI financial support scheme

26 Apr, 2010

Please find below the HBF’s response to the consultation on the Renewable Heat Incentive.

We see the RHI as an important part of the policy framework relating to the delivery of the Government’s zero carbon homes policy and welcome the introduction of such an incentive to complement the Feed-in Tariff for smaller scale renewable electricity installations.

Our comments in answer to the consultation questions seek to ensure that the incentive is as accessible to home builders and their delivery partners as possible and helps to make the building of future new low carbon homes both more practical and cost-effective than might otherwise be the case.

We have made significant comments on the need to give greater focus to the importance of promoting district networks for renewable heat, to allow renewable cooling to qualify for the RHI and to adopt a less technology specific approach that would both give a greater role to CHP as an enabling technology and take into account the need to promote outcomes that achieve the best cost per tonne of carbon saved.
