Member Briefing - London Mayors Housing Strategy - 20 November 2008

26 Nov, 2008

HBF's summary and analysis of the Mayor’s Draft Housing Strategy.

In brief, reading between the lines, I think we can detect an expectation that net market additions will fall across the capital, and the trumpeted 50,000 affordable homes will only be achieved by buying un-saleable market stock. Increased levels of public subsidy, but members will be in competition with the RSLs, at a time when the NHF continues to criticise our product as substandard.

In line with Boris’s election promise, it is proposed that the affordable housing target will be scrapped, but a word of warning: London Plan policies remain in place until the Strategy is adopted (late 2009) and its polices then become a material consideration.
