HBF RIDDOR data collection and reporting
HBF has been reporting on the home building industry’s health and safety data for more than twenty years. The reports were introduced to provide a more consistent understanding of health and safety performance across the home building sector.
Health and safety data is collected quarterly from all volunteer member organisations from 1 April to 31 March. HBF collates the anonymised data and publishes four quarterly RIDDOR reports and one annual RIDDOR report. The HBF Health and Safety Committee ultimately use insight from the reports to target effective improvements in health and safety performance across the sector.
RIDDOR data is information collected under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR), a UK legal requirement for employers, the self-employed, and those in control of work premises.
Help strengthen our insight
HBF encourages all home builders to use this report to review the headline trends and compare them with internal health and safety data, share relevant findings with site teams and contractors, and support wider participation in future HBF RIDDOR data collection.
The value of this report depends on the willingness of HBF members to share information, experience and learning. By contributing data, members help build a clearer picture of health and safety risks across home building and support more effective action at sector level.

HBF encourages all member organisations to take part in future reporting, whether they are large national builders, regional businesses or smaller developers.
