Squatting is back apparently. It even got a mention on Radio 4’s Broadcasting House on Sunday. Of course, it’s not the 60’s or the 70’s – times have moved on and we have to consider the now, not what once was. So what does the new outbreak of squatting tell us? The high profile examples may be targeting the rich and famous but surely this phenomenon must have some connection with difficulties people – particularly the young – are facing in finding somewhere suitable to live. Could the new outbreak of squatting just be a leading indicator of social tensions ahead on housing?
