After 1 January 2005 all electrical work in dwellings will be subject to the new Part P of the building regulations. The work will need to be either notified to building control or carried out by a competent person who is registered with a Part P self-certification scheme. People registered with self-certification schemes will be fully qualified electrical contractors who will be able to issue a certificate of compliance.
