HSE campaign on Falls from Height

21 December, 2005

HSE is planning a campaign in partnership with Local Authorities and partners from business and trades unions, which will take place in May.

The campaign will involve a national publicity/media campaign, education/promotional events and targeted inspections.

The reason that falls from height has been chosen as the focus for the campaign is that falls remain the biggest killer in the workplace with 53 fatalities in 2004/05. In addition, incidents involving falls from height are one of the largest causes of major injury, with nearly 3800 reported in 2004/05. Significantly, about 2/3s of these were falls from below head height.

Tony Almond at tony.almond@hse.gsi.gov.uk is working on the campaign team and will be the central contact for the falls campaign.
