HBF Response - The Future of the Code for Sustainable Homes - Making a Rating Mandatory

23 Oct, 2007

The HBF has responded to the CLG consultation The Future of the Code for Sustainable Homes: Making a Rating Mandatory. We have commented that the title is somewhat misleading as there is no indication that Lifetime Homes are to be addressed in this consultation.

The document asks if the Code should be amended at different times, notably to include Lifetime Homes as a mandatory element. Lifetime Homes are already an optional element in the Code - their inclusion has serious implications for density and cost.

We have stated that we see no point in a mandatory rating. We also believe that the Code Levels should be consistent for the life of the Code so that comparisons can be made. Also, the idea was to amend Building Regulations in line with the Code, not the other way round as this document seems to suggest.
