Consumer Code for home builders

The Consumer Code for Homebuilders is an industry-led code of conduct for builders, which was developed to make the home buying process fairer and more transparent for purchasers.

The code, which came into effect in April 2010, applies to all homebuilders registered with the UK's main new home warranty providers; NHBCPremier Guarantee and LABC Warranty and consists of 19 requirements and principles that home builders must meet in their marketing and selling of homes and their after-sales customer service.

The code is there to ensure that new home buyers are treated well, know what to expect and are always given reliable information by their builder. The code means consumers are safe, secure and are guaranteed fair and equitable treatment by home builders. The code is part of other efforts within the industry, such as, the Customer Satisfaction Survey, to raise standards in the sector.
