Following the publication of CITB’s Strategic Plan and because of CITB’s continued limited resources and changing priorities within the sector the Pathways into Construction Project will no longer be financially supported by CITB. We are maintaining contact with all partners and employers engaged in the delivery to date to ensure we continue to support individuals who participated in our programmes. It is important for us to continue to support these under-represented groups to increase diversity in our sector and we will be promoting more opportunities to get involved in this work over the coming months
The Home Building Skills Partnership (HBSP) has been awarded £1.9m by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) to improve the recruitment, training and development of people from four under-represented but key groups - women, ex-military (12 months+), further education learners and young people not in education, employment or training.
Under its Pathways into Home Building Careers programme, the Skills Partnership will be working with employers, training partners, key stakeholders in home building, and existing support networks, over three years (2019-2022) to deliver this commitment.
Growing the sector’s workforce has never been more important. Industry figures show that we will need over 49,000 new recruits to increase house building output in line with the Government’s 300,000 target.
The scale of the challenge is laid bare when it is considered that an estimated 145,000 (31% of the total workforce) will retire over the coming years. Adding to the shortage will be a likely reduction in European workers' post-Brexit. Championing a diverse workforce will be key to solving the growing shortage of skills.
This project aims to promote home building as a career choice and recruit a more diverse and inclusive workforce, it is developing in collaboration with Home Builders pathways to help recruit and train people from under-represented groups of women, 12 months+ ex-military, further education learners and young people not in education, employment or training.
