Community Infrastructure Levy

Local authorities in Wales can charge a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) on new development in their area to support infrastructure needed by growth, such as improvements to roads, park/open space improvements or a new health provision.

The Community Infrastructure Levy is not devolved to Wales. Guidance and regulations are prepared by the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG).  The Welsh Government has provided guidance on the Community Infrastructure Levy and Local Development Plans.

More information on the levy is available on the DCLG website here

The powers to set CIL will be devolved to Welsh Government in April 2018.  The Welsh Government have currently not made any  statement regarding their plans for CIL once its devolved.
