Government needs to design policies for delivery

Speaking today, Stewart Baseley, executive chairman of HBF said;

“House builders share the Housing Ministers vision of delivering homes that communities want – but we need Government to provide the ingredients that enables the cake to be baked.

“The Government’s Localism agenda, when finalised, will give Local Authorities and communities the powers to decide what housing is built in their areas.  House builders for their part stand ready to work with local communities to deliver the homes they need – and want.

 “Developers already build a range of house types and designs, homes that overwhelmingly surveys show customers are happy with.

“Politicians need to be focussing on ensuring that they develop policies that create an environment in which developers can deliver the homes the country needs – and help meet the Government’s commitment to build more. This means finalising changes to the planning system to ensure enough land in the right places becomes available; and cutting the regulation and bureaucracy that currently makes too many potential housing sites non viable.”
