All major political parties now acknowledge the desperate need to build more homes and for the first time in decades the issue of housing the next generation is likely to feature heavily in the election manifestos of the parties seeking to form a government in May 2015.
The HBF will be representing the interests of the house building industry as the parties develop their plans for government. But for the first time ever we have also joined together with others from across the housing sector to communicate a collective message to the parties and candidates at the general election. Comprising organisations representing housing associations, private landlords, charities, planners and architects, as well as house builders, we seek to present a united voice to politicians ensuring that housing remains at the top of the agenda for whichever party, or parties, form the next government.
The Homes for Britain campaign, of which HBF is one of seven core partners, is now calling on all parties to commit to ending the housing crisis within a generation and work with colleagues from across the housing world to develop a plan for doing so. The Bank of England’s Governor, Mark Carney, has called the deeply entrenched problems with the housing market one of the biggest risks to the UK economy. This is a crisis that has developed over a long period and long-termism is required to help tackle the shortage of housing and everyone will have to play their part.
The campaign has already attracted considerable interest at a political level after being promoted at more than 80 events run by over 50 organisations at this year’s political party conferences. Hopefully you will have today seen some of the social media activity launching this new phase of the campaign. Between now and the election, HBF will be taking part in a number of other events and activities it would be great if members could help spread the word and play a really active part in the next phases of the campaign. The activity culminates in March at the Homes for Britain Rally in London.
There are many ways that your company can join the campaign from presenting the Homes for Britain badge on your website or tweeting about the campaign to displaying banners and pledging sponsorship.
