The Prospectus seeks expressions of interest from local areas interested in delivering a new Garden City. Government will then work with areas bringing forward strong expressions of interest to help them develop their proposals. Government support will include funding through the Large Sites infrastructure Programme (see below). Expressions of interest are invited on an ongoing, rolling basis, rather than being subject to a fixed deadline. Localities are also invited to submit their views (by 29th August) on the issues and barriers to developing Garden Cities.
The 2015-20 Programme involves an investment of £1bn over six years, together with a wider support packaged, to unlock locally supported housing schemes of at least 1,500 dwellings capable of delivering up to 250,000 new homes in total.
A key element of the programme is its long-term nature. DCLG will run annual Prospectuses to allow schemes to come forward for support at the point that it is needed and enable a robust and well-informed picture of locally-led large scale development activity to be established, allowing a more co-ordinated and strategic level of support. The current Prospectus sets out what support is available and how to access it.
