Technical Support

The HBF's Technical Department and the National Technical Committee address a wide range of issues facing the industry. This involves close liaison with the CLG and other relevant organisations, such as the NHBC. The HBF scrutinises proposed changes to Building Regulations and other technical matters and advises members on this, whilst making recommendations to The Government.

National Technical Committee

The National Technical Committee meets five times a year to consider technical issues relating to housebuilding.

Its members review and comment on aspects of government policy in relation to changes in technology and construction, particularly regulations which affect building practice and construction and the commercial implications of proposed changes.

They also, where possible, propose a realistic regulatory framework and protection for the housebuilding industry in all matters relating to land development.

They consider the policies of utility companies and negotiate with them and their regulators to promote competition, reduce charges and ensure value for money in the provision of services.

NTC also tries to ensure that housebuilders are represented on external groups and organisations with common interests to ensure adequate liaison with them on key issues.

Regional Technical Meetings

Technical meetings are held regularly in the seven different areas of England plus one in Wales, usually after every second National Technical Committee.

The regional meetings are crucial to the process of conveying the views of the regions to Government and regulators based in London and are a vital part of the HBF's technical strategy.

There is usually a speaker on an issue of interest at that time plus an update of the national technical issues and an opportunity to discuss what local issues are causing concern or indeed have been resolved.

The meetings are informal and are open to associate and supplier members as well as housebuilders so they offer a great opportunity to liaise with other professionals in the industry.

We also hold seminars in different parts of the country on topical issues.
