Supplementary Planning Documents
Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD) are included with the Local Development Framework (LDF), and may be produced to provide policy guidance to supplement adopted policies and proposals in Development Plan Documents (DPDs). Additionally, SPD must be consistent with national and regional planning policies.
SPD carries less weight that DPD in the determination of planning applications, but must undergo a formal process of consultation. However PPS12 dictates that policies which should be included in a DPD and subject to proper independent scrutiny, in accordance with the statutory procedures, should not be set out in SPD.
