Regional Planning
The Assembly encourages authorities to work together to consider cross border planning issues and to assist authorities in drawing up the strategic policies of their Unitary Development Plans/Local Development Plans. The system is voluntary and has no formal process or status.
Groups:
• South East Wales Strategic Planning Group - produced Strategic Planning Guidance Volumes 1 (Jan 2000) & 2 (July 2001) and Summary Documents
• South West Wales Strategic Planning Group - produced Regional Planning Guidance document (April 2000)
• Mid Wales Strategic Planning Forum - produced Strategic Planning Statement
• North Wales Regional Group - produced Regional Planning Guidance document and Environmental Appraisal (Adopted by all authorities except Gwynedd as Supplementary Planning Guidance July 2001)
A similar system has been used to prepare Waste Guidance across Wales.
The Wales Spatial Plan is likely to drive regional work in the future.
