Supplementary Planning Guidance is a way of setting out more detailed guidance o n the way in which policies of development plans will be applied in particular circumstances. While only the policies in the development plan can have the special status that Section 54a of the 1990 Act (as amended by section 38(6) of the Planning & Compulsory Purchase Act 2004), SPG may be taken into account as a material consideration. All SPG must be derived from development plan policy and not be used to introduce new policy.
